The Helm Prominence, informally called the Helm, is a small post-Covenant polity spread out among the Kalosi Reach and Oshani Margin, loose astropolitical fixtures established by Covenant expeditions and located in relative proximity to the Human Sphere. Founded by the nomadic Helm people with the support of San'Shyuum colonial ministries, the Prominence took form following the Second Oshani Expedition and an ensuing pilgrimage call for Vheiloth Jiralhanae to the garden world of Prarce, marking the first major gathering of Helm descendants in several hundred years. Originally commissioned to support military and traders with frontier security, the role of the Jiralhanae colonials expanded during the Human-Covenant War to include protecting supply lines and probing unexplored space for human colonies.
Following the Great Schism, the Helm people consolidated around the charismatic chieftain-by-blood-right, Helmandi, and established a societal structure based on contemporary Jiralhanae governing practices and ancient nursery rhymes retelling the ancient histories of the Helm homeland and their collective wish to return to Doisac. Situated along the Tempest Crossing, a former Covenant invasion corridor, the Prominence was blessed and cursed with the circumstances of remote astrography. In the post-Covenant era, they were protected from the Arbiter's fleets but isolated from the former Holy Ecumene and its vital trade.
Limited by location, the Helm Prominence resorted to conscripting the Unggoy and Kig-Yar laborers they once guarded into state-mandated work programs directed towards infrastructure and self-sufficiency projects. Very few non-Jiralhanae are allowed free movement and those that are, provide a precious resource in the form of homegrown trade guilds overseen by Jiralhanae masters. The Helm Prominence's post-Covenant War relationship with humans is a mixed bag: trading technology and commodities with rebel colonies, returning stranded human civilian ships to their territory and picking fights with UNSC warships over abandoned human worlds for colonization rights. Fundamentally, the Helm's relationship with the wider galaxy is a state of aggressive isolationism, chasing any non-aligned ships from their vaguely-established borders.
