The Naval Special Warfare Command, formerly known as the United Nations Space Command Special Operations Command, is a functional combatant command under the UNSC Naval Command. Its primary function is to study, employ, and conduct special operations under the UNSC Naval Command throughout UNSC controlled space. The command was originally stood up in the creation of the UNSC back during the Interplanetary Wars as the United Nations Space Command Special Operations Command, but was renamed Naval Special Warfare Command in 2184.

Organization[edit | edit source]

The Commanding Officer of the Naval Special Warfare Command is a four-star admiral or general who reports directly to the Commanding Officer of the UNSC Naval Command. The Commanding Officer of the Naval Special Warfare Command is also able to report directly to UNSC High Command when called upon. Subordinate Commanders of the Naval Special Warfare Command report directly to the assigned FLEETCOM Commanding Officer as well as the Commanding Officer of Naval Special Warfare Command.

Subordinate Commands[edit | edit source]

The Naval Special Warfare Command Headquarters is located in Sol Core and operates five forward-deployed commands to support FLEETCOM Sectors in conducting special operations. The forward-deployed commands are commanded by a three-star admiral or general. However, Sol Core is commanded by a two-star admiral or general.

Subordinate units to the Naval Special Warfare Command include joint units assigned under the subordinate command to carry out special operations in a designated system. Subordinate units are capable of serving as special operation assets to a UNSC Task Force or a UNSC Navy Fleet and its components. They are known to be forward deployed Command and Control Detachments to the Subordinate Command and oversee NAVSPECWAR missions and can advise the NAVCOM commander on objectives.

  • Naval Special Warfare Expeditionary Squadron - led by an O-5
  • Naval Special Warfare Units - led by an O-5
  • Naval Special Warfare Support Activity Units - led by an O-5

Naval Special Warfare Task Units - led by an O-4

The Naval Special Warfare Command hosts its own Intelligence Group known as the NAVSPECWAR Joint Intelligence Operations Center. Intelligence personnel from the UNSC Aerospace Force, Navy, and Marine Corps work together to provide intelligence for the Headquarters, Subordinate Commands, and Subordinate Units of Naval Special Warfare Command. The commanding officer of the NAVSPECWAR JIOC serves as the Intelligence Staff Commanding Officer.

Naval Special Weapons is a Special Operations Unit that conducts covert operations alongside the Office of Naval Intelligence's Section Three. The unit reports directly to the Commanding Officer of Naval Special Warfare Command. Naval Special Weapons is a heavily classified naval military unit known to conduct SPARTAN Program operations. Other units such as the ORION Project have operated under the command of NAVSPECWEP during its tenure. NAVSPECWEP is commanded by an O-6.

Also, Naval Special Warfare Command hosts Naval Special Warfare University to help officers and enlisted personnel to become experts in Naval Special Warfare theories, tactics, and command. The education component provides satellite campuses across UNSC Controlled Space to ensure personnel does not have to travel far from their assigned positions. The Naval Special Warfare Senior Enlisted Academy serves as a school to help provide education to enlisted personnel who are becoming a Senior Enlisted Leader, Senior Enlisted Advisor, and Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
